When a fleet asset has spent 16+ years on the road, travelled the around Australia countless times and become synonymous with a well-known brand, replacing it isn't a straightforward vehicle procurement exercise.
That was the challenge facing Suncorp and Shannons when it came time to retire the original Super Rig.

As a long-standing fleet management partner to Suncorp, Custom Fleet was engaged to help identify the right vehicle platform, support the design and build process, and deliver a fleet solution capable of supporting the next chapter of the Super Rig program.
The result is Shannons Super Rig 2.0, a purpose-built Mack truck designed to provide the reliability, compliance and operational capability required to support Shannons' national events program for years to come.
The original Shannons Super Rig wasn't a typical heavy vehicle. As a travelling brand experience, it’s spent nearly two decades appearing at some of Australia's most recognised automotive and motorsport events, creating memorable experiences for enthusiasts around the country.
With maintenance costs continuing to rise and the original Super Rig showing its age, Suncorp engaged Custom Fleet to help develop a solution that would support the next phase of the program, while delivering the performance, safety and operational capability.
More than just a vehicle replacement project, this was an opportunity to create the next evolution of an iconic asset that represents everything the Shannons brand stands for.
Working closely with Suncorp and Shannons, we helped evaluate suitable truck options, narrow down the final vehicle selection and support the delivery of a solution that met both operational requirements and fleet policy standards.
Our team played key roles in identifying the right vehicle platform, helping ensure the final solution balanced performance, safety, reliability and long-term fleet outcomes.
Projects like Super Rig 2.0 sit well outside the scope of a typical fleet replacement.
This is not a delivery truck or a standard commercial vehicle. It's a highly specialised asset with unique operational requirements, significant brand visibility and a demanding national travel schedule.
Super Rig 2.0 has been integrated into Suncorp's fleet management program and includes telematics, reporting, driver safety monitoring and ongoing fleet support. Custom Fleet will provide ongoing comprehensive fleet management services throughout its lifecycle.
Ensuring the truck aligned with Suncorp's fleet policies while supporting the unique requirements of Super Rig required close collaboration between multiple stakeholders across the project.
The successful delivery of Super Rig 2.0 highlights the value of strong partnerships and specialist fleet expertise.
Custom Fleet team members Jason Hunt (Regional Relationship Manager), Tiia O'Brien (Relationship Manager) and Jason Turfrey (Truck, Plant & Equipment Specialist QLD & NT) worked closely with Suncorp and project partners throughout the vehicle selection, funding and delivery process.
The project also creates a solution that extends beyond traditional fleet management and demonstrates the breadth of capabilities Custom Fleet can offer to customers with complex mobility requirements.
For Jason Hunt, the project is a strong example of the value Custom Fleet can bring when customers face unique challenges.
For the Custom Fleet team, Super Rig 2.0 represents the kind of project that showcases what's possible when fleet expertise, collaboration and problem solving come together.
While most fleet programs focus on passenger vehicles and light commercial fleets, this project demonstrates how Custom Fleet can work across an entire supply chain to deliver specialised solutions that meet highly unique customer requirements.
Super Rig 2.0 will make its first public appearance at Cooly Rocks On (3–7 June) on the Gold Coast, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this unique vehicle and the team behind it.
